We are in contact with advertising and without realizing it influences us more than we think. Advertising has sold a concept of beauty that gives us an unhealthy canon. This way of thinking provokes complexes and lack of self-esteem and all this can lead to eating disorders. I wanted to give visibility to this so that answers can be given. We must question ourselves if what we do is the result of our own reality or is given and reaffirmed by the media.
This project focuses on the influence of media in youth. The objective of it was to determine the causes and consequences of stereotypes imposed in advertising. From the data gathered, it was proven that children and adolescents are the most vulnerable groups and those who suffer eating disorders mainly because of Body Cult as a consequence of their lack of self-esteem. Advertising reflects society, reaffirms gender stereotypes and persuades consumers using the power of the story.
